General Information
What is Presentwise..? PresentWise.co.uk provides an online service which allows you to put together wishlists of gifts you would like for Wedding Gifts, New Babies, Birthday Ideas, Christmas Lists or any occasion you can think of. Simply install our clever little Present Widget then browse the internet as normal and add present ideas from any online store. Invite your friends and family to view your lists so that they can be confident they are getting a present which will be appreciated. Because we keep track of what's being bought you should never be given two of the same thing.
Is Presentwise free to use..? Yes it is, both as a wishlist owner and a guest.
What can I use my wish lists for..? You can use your wishlists for Wedding Gift Lists, Birthday present ideas, Christmas lists, Baby Showers, or any occasion you can think of, whether it is for yourself or other people. It can also be handy to start a list if you are looking to buy something specific and just want to keep track of all the items you have found for comparison. You can create as many lists as you like too, so you'll never run out of options.
Does Presentwise sell the items it lists..? No. We provide a means of putting together lists of items you would like, but don't actually handle the sale itself. Once you have reserved an item from a friend's list and click the Buy button, you will be transferred to the retailer's website in a new window/pane to complete the transaction with them. (if a new window/pane does not appear, please check that you haven't blocked pop-up windows from appearing in your browsers options menu.)
How do I pay for items on Presentwise..? All transactions must be carried out on the retailer's website where the item is listed. We do not actually handle any of the payment ourselves, just provide a handy means of putting lists together of things you would really like.
My Lists
How do I add items to my wishlist..? There are 2 main methods of adding items to one of your lists;
- Install our clever little Present Widget which allows you to grab the details of any present you are looking at from any online store and save it back onto your wishlist. It is completely safe to use and easy to install. For more information, please refer to the Present Widget Installation page.
- You can also add items by hand if you have found an item not on the internet. Click on the “add item” button within any list to open up the “Add New Item” pane where you can enter the details of the item you would like.
I have created a Wedding List, how can I invite my friends to view it..? There are 2 simple methods of inviting your friends to see your lists;
- By Email. From your "My Lists" page, click on the 'Invite friends to view my lists' button, then select the contacts you would like to invite by putting a tick next to each name. (If you haven't yet added any contacts, go to the “My Contacts” page and use one of the many easy to use methods of adding your friends details) If you wish, add a message at the bottom of the page and press the 'invite' button. An email will then be sent to each of your friends containing a link directly to your list.
- By Post. From your "My Lists" page, click on the 'Invite friends to view my lists' button. Then, simply make a note of the List ID number and Event Date under the list name and include them in your wedding invites. Instruct your friends to go to the PresentWise homepage at www.PresentWise.co.uk and enter the details you have provided.
How do I add a new list..? You can create a new list by going to your "my lists" page and clicking on the "add a new list" button at the top of the page. You can also create a new list while using the present widget to grab the details of an item. When the present widget pane is open, simply click on the "new list" button at the top and fill in the requested fields on the next screen. When you save the current item it will be added directly to this new list.
How do I change the name of one of my lists..? When you are logged in, go to your "My Lists" page and then click on the "edit" button next to the list you want to change. When the "Edit List" window opens type in a new list name and press save to update your changes. From here you can also change the description, event date and other settings.
How do I delete a list..? When you are logged in, go to your "My Lists" page and then click on the "delete" button next to the list you want to change.
What does the "default" list mean..? The default list shows which of your wishlists new items will be added to when you use the present widget. You can of course choose to add items to any list while using the present widget, but if you are adding lots of items to the same list it saves time to have this pre-selected. To set a different list as the "default list", click on the "edit" button next to the list to open the "Edit List" window, then select the "yes" option for "Default List" and press save.
Can I change the picture displayed with an item after I have added it to one of my lists..? Yes you can. While viewing one of your wishlists click the "edit" button next to the item you want to have a different picture. When the "Edit Item" pane opens you will see the image currently being used in the top window with 2 buttons to the right of it. Use the top "click here to grab an image from this site" button to select a different image from the retailer's page where the item was added from. When you have clicked on the button, move the scroll bar up and down to locate the image you would like to use, click on it, then press the "save" button to update the item. Alternatively, use the bottom "Click here to find an image on your computer" option to upload an image you have previously saved on your computer's hard drive. Click the button, browse to the location on your computer where the image is saved then press upload. Finally, press the "save" button to update the item.
How do I mark an item as bought on one of my lists..?
To mark an item on one of your lists as bought, follow these steps;
- Go to the "My Lists" page and click on the list which has the item you wish to mark as bought.
- To the right of the item, click the 'reserve item' button.
- When the "Reserve Item" pane opens, select how many of the item has been bought.
- On the "My Reserved Items" page, click the 'bought' button
My Friend's Lists
Why do I need to register before I can purchase an item from one of my friend's lists..? We request that you provide your name and email address so that your friend will know who to thank should you choose to buy them a gift. When you enter you details we will send you an email with a username and password so that you can log back in to see the items on your friends list at any time.
Why do I need to reserve items on my friend's list before I can buy them..? We allow you to 'reserve' items first so that these items cannot be bought by anyone else while you are making up your mind if you are going to buy them or not.
You can mark any number of items as 'reserved', but we ask that if you change your mind about purchasing any of the items that you return them to your friend's list as soon as possible. While they are on your reserved list, no one else will be able to purchase them. You can make them available again by clicking the 'return item' button next to each item on your "My Reserved Items" page.
Does Presentwise order all of the reserved items after the event and send them to the recipient..? No, all reserved items must be bought by the guest who reserved them from the retailer's website, or returned to the list for someone else to buy. We allow you to reserve items so that these items cannot be bought by anyone else while you are making up your mind if you are going to buy them or not.
My Account
Why do I need to validate my account..? We ask that you click on the verification link you will receive in your welcome email when you register to ensure that you have entered the email address correctly, and to help prevent fraudulent users misusing the site.
What do you do with the personal information I gave when I registered..? We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we are required by law to do so. For more information, please read our Privacy Policy.
I have forgotten my password, what can I do..? Go to the Login page and enter the email address you used to register with us in the "Forgotten password" section. We will then send an email to this address containing your password.
How do I change my password..? Once you are logged in, go to your "My Account" page. Enter and confirm your existing password, type in a new one, then press the 'update' button to update your details.
How do I cancel my account..? Once you are logged in, go to your "My Account" page. Scroll to the bootom of the page and click the 'terminate' button. You will be asked whether you really want to close your account, then once you confirm this we permanently remove all of your details and wishlists.
